The Coyotes’ dressing room is always rocking after a victory.
Once all the players have assembled there after doing various interviews, Head Coach Dave Tippett delivers his post-game talk. After that, it’s party time complete with the song Right Back Where We Started From, a la the movie Slap Shot, always blaring in the background.
The post-game buzz was more electric than usual after the team’s win over the Dallas Stars on Nov. 27, and not just because Phoenix had exploded for five goals in a lopsided victory.
Actor Vince Vaughn, the star of many contemporary comedies, cranked up the good time a notch or two with a surprise visit.
Vaughn was in the Valley and incorporated the game into his plans. Tippett and many of the players took time to chat with him and pose for pictures.
“I’d never met him before,” defenseman Keith Yandle
said. “I’d seen him at one of our games in LA so it was cool to finally meet him. He’s a guy whose movies I really enjoy. He’s probably the funniest guy in show business right now.”
Many of the Coyotes list one or more of Vaughn’s films among their favorites. A quick poll revealed that Wedding Crashers is by far his most popular film among the players. Old School, Swingers and Dodgeball also received some votes.
“He was really nice,” forward Scottie Upshall said. “It was his dad’s birthday and he thought it would be cool to bring him down to meet the guys. It was pretty overwhelming to get the chance to meet him.”
He added, “He’s from Chicago, and he said he was a big Blackhawks fan growing up and that he’d always kept in touch with the game. It was really cool to see him. He’s an actor I’ve always followed and he’s probably one of the funniest individuals on the planet.”
