Upper Deck Trading Card & Memorabilia Show
added to 2006 NHL Entry Draft weekend schedule
Company is the exclusive trading card manufacturer of the NHL and the NHLPA
CARLSBAD, Calif. -- Building on an exciting season that saw talented rookies skate their first NHL shifts and ageless veterans continuing their dominance, the National Hockey League Players' Association (NHLPA), National Hockey League (NHL), and Upper Deck (UD) have teamed up for the NHL Entry Draft to present a card and memorabilia show in Vancouver, British Columbia on June 24 at GM Place. As title sponsor of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft Trading Card & Memorabilia Show, Upper Deck has invited 16 card shops and distributors to participate in the day-long hockey sports card show.
The NHL Draft Event will be the first time that these newly drafted players will don the jerseys of their new professional clubs and Upper Deck will be on hand to photograph the occasion for its 2006-07 hockey card lineup. Upper Deck will be offering a 2006 NHL Draft Redemption Program, where attendees will purchase five packs of any Upper Deck or Fleer Hockey trading card sets released in 2006 from the cards shops at the show, and receive an exclusive six-card pack of former No. 1 NHL Draft Picks. "The NHL Draft Event along with the Trading Card & Memorabilia Show is the perfect place for fans and collectors to get a glimpse of their teams draft picks," said Kerri Stockholm, Senior Sports Marketing Manager for Upper Deck. "This event is critical for us to get the early photographs of the next generation of players and add them into future card products for the millions of collectors and hockey fans around the world."
"The NHL is thrilled to work with Upper Deck to give fans and card collectors attending the Draft an opportunity to celebrate their favorite players by building their memorabilia collections," said Dave McCarthy, NHL Director, Entertainment Products. "There will be something for everyone, including a few surprises."
"There's no better place for a hockey fan to be than in Vancouver for the week of the NHL Awards and Entry Draft, so it's only fitting that Upper Deck would be there as well," said Ken Kim, NHLPA Senior Director, Business. "The Upper Deck Trading Card and Memorabilia show is a perfect way for fans and collectors to wrap-up an exciting season, with an unforgettable rookie class, and catch a glimpse of future NHL stars at the same time."
Additionally, Upper Deck will give away Fleer Ultra five-card sheets, Bee Hive Hockey oversized cards, UD key chains, and ice hockey and Upper Deck hats. The company will also raffle five boxes of Hot Prospects Hockey (value $105 USD) to fans who participate in the redemption program.
The Upper Deck Trading Card & Memorabilia Show will be open from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the concourse level of GM Place.
In 2005-06, Upper Deck signed an exclusive trading card license with both the NHL and the NHLPA and made an immediate impact in growing the hockey segment of the collectibles business. This past January, Upper Deck offered NHL fans the opportunity to vote online for their team's greatest player, best single-season team, and six best NHL rookies ever. Upper Deck will release the fan-selected set in the fall of 2006.
