GLENDALE – Three of the five Coyotes competing at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia have advanced to the semifinals.

Defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson (Sweden), forward Lauri Korpikoski (Finland), and goalie Mike Smith (Canada) will remain at the Games after their teams posted victories in the quarterfinals on Wednesday; Sweden beat Slovenia 5-0, Finland beat Russia 3-1, and Canada beat Latvia 2-1.
Sweden will play Finland at 5 a.m. (AZ time) on Friday. That semifinal will be followed by Canada vs. USA at 10 am (AZ time). The bronze medal game will take place on Saturday and the gold medal game will be on Sunday.
Ekman-Larsson, Korpikoski and Smith all are rookies at the Olympics.
Coyotes forward Martin Hanzal and defenseman Zbynek Michalek are heading back to Arizona after their Czech Republic team was eliminated by the United States, 5-2, on Wednesday.
