Team Name Will Change to Arizona Coyotes at NHL Entry Draft on June 27

GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- The Phoenix Coyotes are excited to own the 12th overall selection at the 2014 NHL Entry Draft in Philadelphia, PA on Friday, June 27. The Coyotes are also looking forward to this date since the team will officially change their franchise name to the Arizona Coyotes at the NHL Draft.

“We are very excited that our franchise will change its name to the Arizona Coyotes at the NHL Entry Draft this week,” said Coyotes Co-Owner, President and CEO Anthony LeBlanc. “Becoming the Arizona Coyotes makes sense for us since we play our games in Glendale and the city is such a great partner of ours. We also want to be recognized as not just the hockey team for Glendale or Phoenix, but the team for the entire state of Arizona and the Southwest. We hope that the name ‘Arizona’ will encourage more fans from all over the state, not just the valley, to embrace and support our team.”

As part of the name change, the Coyotes are introducing a new shoulder patch (alternate mark) for their home and road jerseys in 2014-15. The Coyotes are also unveiling a new wordmark for this season. The rest of the Coyotes uniform will not change in 2014-15.

In addition, the Coyotes mobile app update will be available in the iOS App Store for Apple devices and Google Play for Android devices on June 25.

The franchise has been known as the Phoenix Coyotes since it moved to the Valley from Winnipeg in 1996. The Coyotes played their home games in downtown Phoenix from 1996 until 2003 when the team moved to their current home, Arena, in Glendale.
