Strome, Merkley Earn Player of the Week Awards

GLENDALE – Coyotes prospects Dylan Strome and Nick Merkley on Monday were named Player of the Week by their respective junior hockey leagues.

Strome, whom the Coyotes selected third overall at the 2015 NHL Draft, earned the Ontario Hockey League’s weekly award by notching eight points (two goals and six assists) in two games playing for the Erie Otters. As part of his memorable week, Strome matched a season-high with a five-point game on Nov. 6, including the game-winning goal vs. Peterborough.


Merkley, whom the Coyotes selected 30th overall at the 2015 NHL Draft, earned the Western Hockey League’s weekly award by notching eight points (four goals and four assists) in three games playing for the Kelowna Rockets. He was named the game’s first star on Nov. 6 for notching four points (one goal and three assists) in a win over Portland.
