Fredrik Sjostrom’s return to the Phoenix Coyotes line-up was more than impressive; it was historic - literally. On Thursday night, Sjostrom recorded his first career hat trick to lead the Coyotes to a 6-3 win over the Nashville Predators.
Sjostrom’s hat trick was the franchise’s 19th since relocating to the Valley in 1996 and the quickest from the start of the season since Hall of Famer Mike Gartner’s effort on October 7, 1996. As an added bonus, Sjostrom’s three-point night moved him into 79th place on the team’s all-time scoring list.
Originally, the NHL only credited Sjostrom with two goals in Thursday's game against the Predators. However, on Friday, the League made an official scoring change to the Coyotes' third goal, which had been given to Steven Reinprecht and was now credited to Sjostrom. Reinprecht received the primary assist on the goal, while captain Shane Doan
received the secondary assist.
After returning home from Nashville, PhoenixCoyotes.com Host Matt Rosen caught up with Sjostrom to talk about his return to the line-up and his career hat trick.
