SHANE DOAN & ADHS TEAM UP AGAINST TOBACCO

by Staff Writer / Arizona Coyotes

On Monday, Phoenix Coyotes captain Shane Doan sat down with Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) and phoenixcoyotes.com to discuss the dangers of tobacco use and why he has chosen to stay tobacco free.

Q: Why have you chosen to be tobacco free?

Shane Doan: Well, first of all I haven't seen it help anyone.  People use it everyday, it certainly causes a lot of problems for your health and I haven't seen any benefits from using it.  As a hockey player, it would be difficult to compete at this level if I used tobacco.

Q: What advice would you give to people who are trying to quit?

Shane Doan: I would just point out that tobacco has been proven for years, to be such a deadly and addictive drug. It ruins your health very quickly and the sooner you can quit the better.  Arizona has great resources available to help people quit all forms of tobacco, just by calling the Arizona Smokers' Helpline at 1-800-55-66-222.

Q: Why is it important for you to keep kids from getting started using tobacco?

Shane Doan: The first reason is that it (tobacco) is incredibly addictive. Kids Should stay away from tobacco because it causes severe damage to their bodies.  That's why it is so important that kids and young adults make the choice not to get involved with tobacco.
