Primarily, the Ontario Hockey League and a little of Europe.
How many games do you see a year?
I see between 150-200 games a year. I travel for about two weeks out of every month.
How did you get your start in scouting?
I played Major Junior Hockey and a little pro. I came to the realization that I wasn't going to have an NHL career. I made the decision when I was 24 that hockey was something I wanted to make a living at and I was focused and knew where I was. It was a way to stay in the game. I started off coaching tier II and, as a crossover, I was scouting the Ontario Hockey League.
Would you be coaching if you weren't scouting?
Most definitely. I wanted to be an assistant coach and I tried my hand at that for a few years in the Ontario Hockey League. I thought it was a good opportunity, but I decided I just wanted to do the scouting only and that was the way I went.
What is your background in scouting?
I started off in Major Junior Hockey in Canada. I have always had the goals to get to the National Hockey League. I spent a couple seasons with the NHL Central Scouting. I then worked with the Oilers for a few years before going to Ottawa. I worked with the Senators for five years then came here to Phoenix. I knew Keith Gretzky from scouting and he wanted to bring me to Phoenix.
