GLENDALE – Coyotes prospect Henrik Samuelsson notched an assist to help Edmonton defeat Portland, 4-2, on Monday night in Game 7 of the Western Hockey League Championship Series in Portland, Ore.

The Coyotes selected Samuelsson with the 27th overall pick of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. The Scottsdale native led Edmonton with 23 points (eight goals, 15 assists) in 21 WHL playoff games.

Coyotes prospect Brendan Burke, whom Phoenix selected with the 163rd overall pick of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, stopped 29 of 33 shots in the loss for Portland.

With the victory, Edmonton advanced to the 2014 Memorial Cup, which starts Friday. The four-team annual event pits the WHL champ, the Ontario Hockey League champ, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League champ and a host team.

This year’s host team is the London Knights of the OHL. Coyotes prospect Max Domi plays for the Knights.

Domi, whom the Coyotes selected with the 12th overall pick of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, notched a team-high 93 points (34 goals, 59 assists) in 61 regular-season games this season.
