VANCOUVER -- Alex Galchenyuk scored the game-winning goal at 1:54 of overtime for the Coyotes, who beat the Vancouver Canucks, 3-2, on Thursday night at Rogers Arena.

Galchenyuk, fresh off the bench, skated the puck behind Vancouver's goal and then tucked it into the net near the right post while Canucks goalie Jacob Marskstom was mistakenly sliding to guard the left post.
"I just came in with a little bit of speed and went behind the net, and I saw the goalie was looking the other way, so I was like 'might as well,'" Galchenyuk said of his crafty move. "I'm happy it went in."

Jakob Chychrun and Lawson Crouse also scored goals for the Coyotes, and Darcy Kuemper made 30 saves.
With the win, Arizona moved to within one point of Minnesota, which holds the second wildcard spot in the Western Conference standings.
"This is where we want to be," Crouse said. "We want to be in that (playoff) chase, and we're doing whatever we can to get in there."
The Coyotes trailed 1-0 after two periods, but Chychrun and Crouse produced their goals 5:11 apart in the third period to put Arizona ahead 2-1.

Adam Gaudette pulled Vancouver into a 2-2 tie when he beat Kuemper with a wrist shot from the right circle with 3:03 left in the game. But like they did in Edmonton two nights earlier, the Coyotes managed to earn the extra point after being tied through 60 minutes.
"We just played desperate hockey," Crouse said. "We knew what we had to do and we did it right to the end of the game. We're a determined group right now, and we're doing whatever we can to win hockey games."

Crouse Says Coyotes Played With Determination

The Canucks out-shot the Coyotes, 26-17, through two periods, but Arizona dominated the third period and put up 20 shots to Vancouver's five.
"Kuemper kept us in it and we were able to come out and have a big third," Chychrun said. "We knew if we won the period, we'd win the game."
Richard Panik returned to the lineup after missing three games because of illness. He skated 13:01 and took one shot on goal.
• Playing in his 100th NHL game, Josh Archibald set up Crouse's goal with a nifty pass from behind Vancouver's net.
• Stats that jump off the Event Summary: Crouse delivered a game-high six hits, Conor Garland launched a game-high six shots on goal, and Jordan Weal won six of seven face-offs.
