NEW YORK --It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's a dog driving a train?
Arizona Coyotes goalie Antti Raanta unveiled his new goalie mask Thursday, and it features a cartoon dog driving a fast-moving locomotive along with saguaro cactus to give it a true desert theme.
The featured dog is Rantanplan, a character from the Belgian cartoon "Lucky Luke."

Raanta explained why the dog is so important to him in a November 2016 article on the Players Tribune. He explained that he has had the dog on his mask since he was 15 because his former coach dubbed him Raantanplan.
Raanta called the new mask "a masterpiece," and is getting fired up to don it for the Coyotes this season.
David Gunnarsson, the Swedish-based mask artist, collaborated with Raanta to create the new bucket for the Finnish-born goalie's first season in the desert. Raanta was acquired by the Coyotes along with the Derek Stepan from the New York Rangers for the No. 7 pick at the 2017 NHL Draft on June 23.
