Coyotes-sponsored PGA player Jeff Quinney shot a 9-over-par 79 under miserable weather conditions Thursday morning in the first round of the British Open at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, England.
The third major golf tournament of the year got off to a windy and soggy start, and only three golfers broke par and share the lead at 1-under. They are Rocco Mediate, Graeme McDowell and Robert Allenby.
Quinney, in the midst of his best year as a pro, kept his score under 80 thanks to two birdies on the back nine. He enters Friday’s second round tied for 123rd place.
