GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- With the season fast-approaching, the Phoenix Coyotes are offering fans a unique and creative way to count the days until the puck drops for the team’s home opener against the Detroit Red Wings on October 16.

The Coyotes Countdown Contest encourages fans to dress up in their favorite Coyotes gear and display numbers from 1 to 10 – in as creative a way possible – and submit photos of their efforts to the team’s website to help count down the days to Oct. 16. The most creative approaches each day will win two tickets to the home opener, with every submission eligible to win an autographed Shane Doan jersey.

“We realize our fans are as excited about the upcoming season – and especially the home opener – as we are,” said Coyotes VP of Marketing and Communications Jim Brewer. “We wanted to give fans a fun and interactive way to help us do an on-line countdown, one that would showcase their passion for the Coyotes and their creativity.”

The contest will begin on October 5 and entries will be accepted through October 14. The Coyotes will choose one winner per day, starting on October 6 and ending on October 15. Fans may submit multiple entries, as long as they submit a different countdown number in each. More information on the Coyotes Countdown Contest, including official rules and instructions on how to enter, is available at

The Coyotes will open the regular season by playing two games against the Boston Bruins at O2 Arena in Prague, Czech Republic, on Saturday, Oct. 9 and Sunday, Oct. 10 as part of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere before returning home to host the Red Wings on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. at Arena.
