GLENDALE -- The NHL on Monday named Coyotes captain Shane Doan its No. 2 Star of the Week for the week ending Jan. 3.
Doan notched five goals in three games, including his 380th on New Year’s Eve to set the Coyotes/Jets franchise record for goals. He also notched his second career hat trick on Dec. 29 vs. Chicago.
Doan, 39, leads the Coyotes with 13 goals in 29 games.
"It's one of those things that's pretty cool," Doan said. "I wish we'd found a way to get a few more points out of the week, but obviously it's fun to score a couple goals. It always helps... It’s a fun time when you feel like you’re contributing and you feel like you’re helping the team.”
Doan has 917 points, 12 fewer than Dale Hawerchuk, who holds the Coyotes/Jets franchise record for points.
Los Angeles Kings goalie Jonathan Quick was named the No. 1 Star and Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang was named the No. 3 Star.
