The Coyotes own the second-best chance at acquiring the first overall pick at 13.5%, behind only the Montreal Canadiens (18.5%). Arizona is guaranteed to pick no lower than the fourth overall selection.
The NHL announced changes to the Draft Lottery format on March 23 that limits the number of slots a team can move up from their regular-season League standings positioning. With non-playoff clubs now only eligible to move up 10 spots in the Draft order, just teams that finished in the bottom 11 have a chance to receive the first selection. Therefore, the Coyotes will only be vying with 10 other teams for the No. 1 overall pick.
The odds for the remaining teams will increase on a proportionate basis for the 2nd Lottery Draw, based on which team wins the 1st Lottery Draw.
