Working alongside host Todd Walsh, Murphy offered the baseball insight of a 22-year-old NHL player on the pre-game and post-game shows.
Before the game, Murphy told Walsh he played baseball up until the third grade in the Atlanta area. He said he remembers being a fan of the Braves and Chipper Jones and, more specifically, the way Jones spit out his sunflower seeds.
Murphy also told Walsh he thoroughly enjoys the baseball movie "Little Big League" despite the fact the film has been widely panned by movie critics.
"It didn't win an Oscar but it got good reviews from the people who cared," Murphy said.
Other pre-game topics discussed by Murphy and Walsh included the Coyotes’ recent free-agent acquisitions, the team’s upcoming prospect development camp and the recent unveiling of the team’s new home and away uniforms. Murphy and several young Coyotes prospects served as uniform models at the official unveiling ceremony at Gila River Arena.
"Modeling is not in my comfort zone," Murphy quipped as footage of the unveiling was shown during the show. "That’s the first and last time you’ll ever see my walking on some sort of a runway."
Near the end of the pre-game show, Murphy interviewed Diamondbacks pitcher/hockey fan Josh Collmenter inside the Arizona dugout.
After the game, Walsh asked Murphy what he thought of Arizona's dramatic, come-from-behind, 4-3 victory in 10 innings.
"It's been a great taste of D-backs baseball," Murphy said. "...It was exciting right down to the end."
