Three of the five players are teammates for Team USA: defensemen Connor Murphy and John Moore, and forward Mark Arcobello. The Americans advanced to the semifinals by defeating Switzerland, 3-1, in one of four quarterfinal games played on Thursday. Despite not notching a point, Moore was named Team USA’s Player of the Game on Thursday.

Goalie Mike Smith and Team Canada also advanced to the semifinals by beating Belarus, 9-0, on Thursday. Smith stopped all 24 shots he faced on Thursday and has stopped 126 of 137 shots thus far in the annual 16-nation tournament.

Forward Martin Erat and the host Czech Republic team advanced to the semifinals by defeating Finland, 5-3, on Thursday. Erat assisted on Czech Republic’s first goal.

Meanwhile, Coyotes defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Team Sweden were eliminated from the tournament after a 5-3 loss to Russia on Thursday. Ekman-Larsson finished the tournament with two goals and 10 assists in eight games. Ekman-Larsson's 12 points rank second only to Canada forward Jason Spezza's 13 points.

Coyotes forward Tobias Rieder also competed at the tournament for Team Germany, which did not advance beyond the preliminary round. Rieder notched a shootout goal and three assists in seven games, and totaled 12 shots on goal.
