After a tough start to this crucial 5 game homestand with back to back losses, the Phoenix Coyotes returned to the ice Monday at the Alltel Ice Den in Scottsdale with a lot of energy. The big story at morning skate today was all about line combinations.
When the Coyotes hit the ice Tuesday night against the defending Stanley Cup Champion Anaheim Ducks, fans will see some interesting new units on the ice. The only constant will be that Martin Hanzal
will continue to center the hard working energy line with Dan Winnik and Craig Weller.
The most eye opening change will see rookie sensation Peter Mueller move to the middle and center a line with Captain Shane Doan
and the team’s leader in goals, Radim Vrbata
. Mueller has not played much at center this season, but it is a position he is very familiar with from his successful days in junior hockey. This line has the potential to generate a lot of offense and right now the Coyotes need production more than ever from their top line.
Another interesting combination at practice today was Joel Perrault centering a line with Enver Lisin and Marcel Hossa. Perrault and Lisin have a history together as they were linemates earlier this year with the San Antonio Rampage. The coaching staff is hoping they can find the same chemistry and production they had in the AHL.
