Coyotes forward Brian McGrattan is officially out for the rest of the season after sustaining a shoulder injury in a fight against Anaheim's George Parros on March 19.
McGrattan is scheduled to undergo surgery on Wednesday.
“I have had chronic shoulder problems throughout my career so I might as well get it taken care of now so I can be ready for next season,” McGrattan said after Friday's practice.
McGrattan returned to the Coyotes on March 17 after completing the NHL's Substance Abuse Program. McGrattan, who was acquired from the Ottawa Senators in the offseason, is looking for a fresh start when training camp starts.
“It's been a long year for me, but I am excited to be healthy and ready to go when the season starts in October,” McGrattan said.
McGrattan, who played in five games for Phoenix this season, is poised to become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason.
