Massive Video Board Will Enhance Game Experience for Fans

GLENDALE - Hockey fans will be treated to an enhanced in-game experience at Gila River Arena starting in 2018-19 thanks to a state-of-the-art video board currently being installed inside the home rink for the Coyotes.

"We know that our fans have a lot of entertainment choices and we need to constantly strive to provide a great and enjoyable experience at all of our games," said Ahron Cohen, the team's President and CEO. "Through traveling around the league and seeing games at other arenas, there's so much that teams can do to make the game come to life throughout the entire arena with a dynamic scoreboard."

Fans will get their first look at the high-definition video board on Oct. 6 when the Coyotes play their home opener vs. the Anaheim Ducks.

Stretching nearly 42 feet long and 24 feet high, the 56,000-pound rectangular HD video board will be nearly triple the size of the original four-screen standard definition video board that was installed at the arena when it opened in 2003.

The video board features six displays and will be 21 times sharper than the old video board and will allow for better views of game action and highlights. The board also features two underbelly displays for premium seat fans that are 16 feet wide and 8.5 feet tall.

Cohen predicts the video board will wow fans.

"This will put us in the upper echelon in the entire NHL in terms of the best scoreboards," Cohen said.

Seven high-definition cameras, including one positioned underneath the video board, will feed the board images during games. The video board also will have the capabilities to integrate with television broadcast cameras, and to join in the mobile trend of using the team app and digital platforms to offer unique experiences during games.

"In addition to our improved fan experience, it will give us a great platform to showcase content from our corporate and community partners," Cohen said. "The scoreboard also gives us the opportunity to do a lot of cool things outside of the game experience, such as away game watch parties, movie nights, and a whole host of other applications. The sky is the limit."
