Coyotes forward Lucas Lessio provided the lone bright spot in the team’s 6-1 loss to Chicago on Tuesday night at the United Center. Lessio, who turns 22 on Friday, scored Arizona’s lone goal – his first in the NHL – with 2:06 left in the second period.
Lessio took a pass from teammate Sam Gagner between the circles and then quickly skated in on Blackhawks goalie Antti Raanta. Lessio deked Raanta and then flipped the puck over him backhanded.
"It was a great pass by (Gagner), a great heads-up play," Lessio said. "I just found that open ice."
Lessio is in his third stint with the Coyotes. He played three games last season, three more earlier this season and Tuesday night’s game was his sixth since being recalled from the American Hockey League for a third time. He notched his first NHL point on Jan. 10 vs. Ottawa when he assisted on Mikkel Boedker’s 12th goal of the season.
Last season, Lessio, whom the Coyotes selected with the 56th overall pick in the 2011 NHL Draft, led the Portland Pirates (AHL) with 29 goals.
