Coyotes goaltending prospect Marek Langhamer stopped 25 shots over 65 minutes and two more in the shootout on Saturday to lead Czech Republic to a 5-4 win over Canada in a preliminary round game at the World Junior Championship in Malmo, Sweden.
Langhamer, who did not play in Czech Republic’s 5-1 loss to USA in his team’s first WJC game on Thursday, has been in the Coyotes’ system since being selected 184th overall by Phoenix in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
Langhamer is currently playing his second season for Medicine Hat in the Western Hockey League. He hails from Pisek, Czech Republic, the same town that Coyotes center Martin Hanzal calls home.
The Czechs next play Monday vs. Germany.
Langhamer is the lone Coyotes prospect playing in this year's WJC tournament.
