GLENDALE - Coyotes prospect Clayton Keller is scheduled to represent the team at the 2017 NHLPA Rookie Showcase in Toronto next week.
Per the NHLPA, the annual event provides Upper Deck - the official trading card partner of the NHLPA and the NHL - with an opportunity to capture photographs and videos of many of the game's top young prospects and rookies in their official NHL team uniforms. The content collected will be used for upcoming Upper Deck trading cards, memorabilia products and digital video posts.
Keller, 19, is one of 25 young players who have been invited to participate at the showcase on Monday, Aug. 28.
"It's going to be an awesome event," Keller told NHL Network. "I've talked to a couple of guys who went a few years before, like Dylan Strome, and he had great things to say about it … A lot of familiar faces will be there so it should be fun."
Keller has been a popular choice of national hockey writers this summer to be the favorite to win the Calder Trophy this season, but he's keeping his goals simple.
"Everyone sets goals for themselves and obviously for me it's to make the roster and to have an impact right away," Keller said. "… That's kind of what I've been working towards this summer… The summer has been going great. I'm really focusing on getting a lot stronger and even working on my skills a lot, so I think it's been a big summer for me and I'm looking forward to the season."
Keller notched two assists in three games for the Coyotes at the end of last season after signing with Arizona following his freshman season at Boston University. He has been skating in Arizona this summer and recently spoke to new Coyotes Head Coach Rick Tocchet for the first time over the phone.
"It's good to have him reach out to us," Keller said. "I've heard nothing but great things about him from everyone, and I think he's going to be great for our young team."
