On Monday Night against the Dallas Stars, Head Coach Wayne Gretzky got the effort he has been looking for from goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov with 42 saves in a hard fought 2-1 loss. Gretzky had made it very clear in his past two post-game press conferences that he needed his number one goalie to step up his game.
When Ilya Bryzgalov has played at a high level this season, the Coyotes have been very tough to beat. That was very evident on Monday Night as Bryzgalov stood on his head in making one spectacular stop after another. He had the red hot Stars on the ropes until Steve Ott powered one home at the 11:45 mark of the third period to tie the game. Even though the Coyotes would go on to lose on a Mike Modano late power play blast, Bryzgalov’s performance was clearly a positive to take home and build on.
As the Coyotes continued their preparation for Thursday’s conclusion of the home and home with Dallas, we caught up with Ilya Bryzgalov for an interview after the team finished practice at the Alltel Iceden in Scottsdale.
