MARTIN HANZAL NAMED TO CZECH REPUBLIC TEAM
FOR WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
Phoenix Coyotes prospect Martin Hanzal has been selected to play for Czech Republic at the 2007 World Junior Championships. The tournament will be played in Sweden from Dec. 26 - Jan. 5. Hanzal was selected by the Coyotes in the first round (17th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
Hanzal, 19, also competed for Czech Republic in the 2006 World Junior Championships in British Columbia and collected 2 assists in 6 games. The forward also registered 4-3-7 and was +7 in 7 games at the 2005 Under-18 World Junior Championships.
Hanzal has registered 15-33-48 and 44 penalty minutes in 32 games with Red Deer of the Western Hockey League (WHL) this season to rank 2nd in the league in both points and assists. The 6-foot-5, 208-pound native of Pisek, Czech Republic was recently named the WHL Player of the Week when he registered 2-6-8 in 3 games from Nov. 21-26. Hanzal's Red Deer Rebels are 17-11-1-2 this season.
