Coyotes Managing Partner-Head Coach Wayne Gretzky will serve as guest speaker as The Boy Scouts of America, Grand Canyon Council with the assistance of the Arizona Trucking Association, Hurley Transportation and Knight Transportation recognize William “Bill” Ewing, chairman and CEO of Hurley Transportation Companies on May 10, 2007 with the “Good Scout Award.” The luncheon will is at the Arizona Biltmore from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Kevin Knight, chairman and CEO of Knight Transportation will be the chairman of the inaugural Truck Transportation Industry Luncheon. “Kevin Knight and the Arizona Trucking Association have played a major role in making this luncheon successful and we are very excited to have Wayne Gretzky, Managing Partner and Head Coach of the Phoenix Coyotes as the luncheon guest speaker”, stated Larry Abbott, Scout Executive/CEO of the Grand Canyon Council.

The “Good Scout Award” is given to an individual in recognition of their outstanding character, leadership in industry and commitment to the community.

Bill Ewing earned his Eagle Scout Award in 1964, his ties with Scouting run deep. With two daughters he became involved with the Girl Scout council in various positions for 15 years. Bill’s commitment to the community and trucking are shown through his multiple affiliations with community and national groups, including Arizona Trucking Association, American Trucking Association, Junior Achievement, Royal Dance Works, Sunshine Group Homes, Historical League, St. Mary’s Food Bank, MKL Foundation, and ASU Scholarship program. Bill is also a life member of the National Eagle Scout Association.

Bill Ewing began his career in trucking in 1968, he started with Hurley Transportation Companies as a part-time driver and in 1987 became the chairman and CEO after purchasing the company from June Hurley. Hurley Transportation will be celebrating its 55th anniversary this year.
