Fox Sports Arizona continues to be recognized as the premiere destination for local sports programming as it recently received 13 Emmy Award nominations for the Rocky Mountain Southwest Region.
Fox Sports Arizona dominated the “On Camera-Talent” category with Brad Steinke, Todd Walsh and Mark McClune accounting for three of the six Emmy Award nominations. Nominations were also garnered by the likes of The Eric Byrnes Show, In My Own Words – Randy Johnson, Spotlight: Rick Tochett and live events such as the Arizona Diamondbacks July 4th “This One’s For You” production and the behind the scenes telecast of a Phoenix Coyotes/Los Angeles Kings game.
The Eric Byrnes Show was nominated twice and D-backs outfielder Eric Byrnes was among the individuals honored for his work on the monthly show. One of the episodes nominated was “Saulo’s Day.” This program featured the day Byrnes spent with Saulo Morris, a then-junior at Thunderbird High School in Phoenix who has acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Since that show, the two have formed a lasting relationship with Byrnes giving him encouragement during his battle with cancer. In addition, Fox Sports Arizona has become a strong supporter of “Team Saulo,” an effort launched by Morris and his friends to help raise awareness and money for the American Cancer Society.
“Fox Sports Arizona’s mission is to be the leader in local sports television coverage,” said Fox Sports Arizona’s Senior Vice President & General Manager Mike Connelly. “These Emmy Award nominations are a clear indication of our staff’s commitment to being the very best in the business.”
