Matthew Tkachuk, son of former Coyotes captain Keith Tkachuk, scored in regulation and again in the shootout for the Calgary Flames in a 2-1 preseason win over the Coyotes on Wednesday night at Scotiabank Saddledome.
Coyotes goalie Mike Smith stopped 36 of 37 shots in 65:00 of ice time, plus two more in the shootout, but he couldn't prevent Tkachuk from scoring in the third round.
With the loss, Arizona dropped to 4-1-2 in the preseason for 10 points.

Anthony Duclair, Radim Vrbata and Dylan Strome failed to score in the shootout vs. Flames goalie Brian Elliott.
Christian Dvorak scored a goal at 6:12 of the first period to give Arizona a 1-0 lead.
The Flames quickly answered when Tkachuk, a linemate of Dvorak last season with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League, beat Smith with a shot during a Calgary power play at 6:41.
The Coyotes were called for 11 penalties in the game but allowed just the one power-play goal.
Defenseman Jakob Chychrun led Arizona in ice time by logging 25:21.
The Coyotes will play their preseason finale on Friday vs. San Jose at Gila River Arena. That game can be heard on ESPN Phoenix 620 (AM) starting at 7 p.m.
