Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Michael Barnett announced that Coyotes' forward Patrick Fischer will be out of the lineup 6-8 weeks after having abdominal surgery yesterday in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The surgery was performed by Dr. William Myers. Fischer has been placed on the club's injured reserve list.

The 5-foot-11, 194 pound Fischer has played 27 games with the Coyotes this season, collecting 4-6-10 and 24 penalty minutes (PIM). Fischer has missed 17 games due to injury this season.

The 31-year-old native of Zug, Switzerland signed with the Coyotes as a free agent on May 5, 2006. Prior to joining Phoenix, Fischer registered 176-263-439 in 534 games with Zug, Davos, and Lugano in the Swiss Elite League. He also played in the 2002 and 2006 Winter Olympic Games (2-1-3 in 10 games) and 7 World Championship tournaments (16-11-27 in 56 games) with Switzerland.
