GLENDALE – Well, the summer is officially over.
That was the consensus around the Coyotes Rookie Camp on Sunday afternoon after the first scrimmage for the 36 young players who were divided into two teams.

Each team scored three goals, but the lead story was the intensity of the scrimmage, which featured a hefty share of eye-popping hits.
“It felt like a real game,” said forward Chris Brown, who delivered several big checks that drew cheers from the fans who were watching inside Jobing.com Arena. “It was definitely chippy and the intensity was higher than I think everyone anticipated. Everyone was battling and you could tell everyone was feeling the pressure to impress someone and get noticed on every shift. It was a good first scrimmage and I think it’s going to lead to more good scrimmages this week.”
Andy Miele, Max Domi, Nathan Chiarlitti, Philip Lane, Brendan Shinnimin and Adam Antkowiak scored the goals.
“That game was a lot of fun to play in,” said Domi, who scored his goal on a penalty shot. “We’re all competing for attention and we pushed each other pretty hard out there today. We all want to make this team and it showed.”
Assistant General Manager Brad Treliving said Brown, Miele, Domi, Lucas Lessio and Henrik Samuelsson all stood out.
Forward Darian Dziurzynski also caught Treliving’s eye.

“I thought he played really hard,” Treliving said of Dziurzynski, whom the Coyotes selected in the fifth round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. “He got pucks in and out, and he was a physical guy and I thought he brought some energy to his shifts.”
Dziurzynski and his peers will take the ice again on Monday for the second of three Rookie Camp scrimmages. He’s hoping it will again be a physical game.
“That’s the type of hockey I like playing – crashing and banging,” Dziurzynski said. “This organization is built around players who like to play that style of game and I’m a physical player. I think I showed that (Sunday) and I want to keep that up this week.”
