GLENDALE - First of all, I'm super excited to be back in Arizona and getting ready to start the new season. It's great just to be back in the room talking and joking and trash talking a little bit with the boys. That's what I miss the most in the offseason.
Our season starts Saturday against the Flyers at home and all of us are excited because there's a lot to be excited about. We added some good veteran players over the summer and we have five rookies that made this team and that's really impressive.
The rookies pushed hard in the camp and they deserve to be here, but now comes the hard part - staying here. They need to keep going and keep getting better. It's always hard to come to a new team and to play against men for the first time. My advice to them is to try to have fun and don't take it too seriously. I thought I took it a little too serious when I was a rookie and I think that was a mistake. They need to realize there's lots of guys here in the dressing room who can help them so it's important for them not to be afraid to ask questions if they feel they need help.
I'm glad we play our first game of the season at home. That's a big one for us. It's always important to have a good start to the season and get a good feeling going in the room and to feel good about yourself and the team. We'll start with that on Saturday. After that we play six road games in a row. That will be a challenge but the chemistry in our room is very good. It's not going to be pretty on the road but we just have to find ways to win hockey games. I think we will.
Thanks for reading this blog. I'll write more throughout the season.
