The Skinny:

Mayo is a smooth-skating, two-way defenseman who was able to take advantage of a long playoff run by the Edmonton Oil Kings en route to the Memorial Cup championship. Playing on a team with lots of talent, Mayo logged plenty of ice time in the post-season and was able to show NHL scouts his varied skill-set. Because of his strong skating, Mayo often jumps into the play to help create offense and rarely gets burned positionally.

The Stats:

• Mayo set a career high in 2013-14 by notching 35 points (seven goals, 28 assists) in 63 regular-season games for Edmonton. He balanced those numbers with a plus-17 rating.

• Mayo led all Oil Kings defensemen in scoring in the WHL playoffs with three goals and 12 assists in 21 games and added an assist in five Memorial Cup games.

The Quotes:

"Skating is definitely one of my strong points so I like to use that to my advantage." -- Dysin Mayo

"Things really clicked for me right at the start of the playoffs. I started playing more offensively than I usually did and that's the kind of game I want to play so I was happy with that." -- Dysin Mayo

"He's a great skater. He's not a real big kid, but his speed gets him out of trouble all the time. He's got great escapability and a great ability to move the puck." – Coyotes Director of Amateur Scouting Tim Bernhardt

The Fun Facts:

• Mayo is one of three Edmonton Oil Kings who will attend the Coyotes annual prospect development camp in early July. The others are 2012 draft pick Henrik Samuelsson and fellow 2014 draft pick Edgars Kulda. "It will be nice to see some familiar faces there," Mayo said.

• Mayo is a big fan of former NHL defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom. "He pretty much could do everything - he could add offense and play shutdown defense. He was just good all over the place."
