The Quotes:

"I was hanging out with my mom, my dad; just sitting on the couch watching TV. I knew there was a chance (to be drafted) so I just had the app refreshing. I saw my name and it was exciting for my parents and myself. I gave them a big hug and said 'Thanks.' It was kind of a regular day for me. I didn’t want to celebrate too much, it’s another step in the direction of my dream to play professional hockey. So, really, I just carried on with my day." -- Conor Garland

"I’m a smaller player who likes to go to the dirty areas, who has skill, but I still have a long ways to go before I’ll be a pro player." -- Conor Garland

"I have a lot of admiration for smaller guys who have made it in the NHL. Obviously, it’s very tough. So I’m a big fan of those guys." -- Conor Garland

"He's like a water bug out there on the ice. He's very skilled. You want to dismiss him because he's only 5-foot-8 but every time you watch him play you can't help but see the strengths of his game. The more you watch this kid you think he's got the puck the whole game ... He's a smaller-sized player but there’s room for those players nowadays." -- Coyotes Director of Amateur Scouting Tim Bernhardt

The Fun Facts:

• Unranked by NHL Central Scouting at mid-season, Garland ranked No. 86 among North American skaters on the final list.

• Garland played for the Boston Jr. Bruins in 2011-12. No. 2 draft pick Jack Eichel was one of his teammates.

• Garland is just the second American-born player to lead the QMJHL in scoring. Hockey Hall of Famer Pat LaFontaine is the other.
