A few more presents found their way to children in need this holiday season, thanks to the generosity of Coyotes fans.

Toys collected at the Holiday Toy Drive on Dec. 13 at Arena were recently delivered to the Swift Kids Branch of the Boys and Girls Clubs in Glendale, just in the St. Nick of time. Arriving on Santa Howler’s sleigh were boxes upon boxes of wrapped toys, games, dolls and sporting equipment.

With a bit of barbecue, plenty of hot chocolate, tons of fur-flying fun and a visit from that jolly guy from the North Pole, the festive atmosphere put everyone into the holiday spirit.

“We’re very appreciative of the support we receive from the Coyotes and Fox Sports Arizona,” said Becky Macias, program director at the Swift Kids Branch. “Many of these kids come from homes where their parents simply don’t have the resources to purchase non-essentials, such as toys. It’s so great to know that the Coyotes and their fans made this all possible so that these tremendous children can experience the joy of opening gifts on Christmas morning.”

The Holiday Toy Drive, hosted in partnership by the Coyotes and Fox Sports Arizona, collected both new toys and cash donations to benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix. Fans made donations outside Gates 4 and 7 prior to the showdown vs. Detroit. Both toy and cash donations entered fans into a contest where one lucky winner received a team signed jersey, four seats on the glass to a future game and the chance to meet goaltender Mikael Tellqvist and defenseman Kurt Sauer.

“We’re really fortunate to have such caring fans,” said Sarah Finecey, Coyotes director of community relations. “I wish everyone who donated to our drive could have seen the faces on these kids when they received their gifts. Just a single present means so much to them and gives them so much hope.”

The Holiday Toy Drive was part of December’s Coyotes Cause – “Caring for our Children,” Child Health and Safety Awareness Month, presented by Sharp Business Systems.
