GLENDALE - Coyotes goalie Louis Domingue unveiled a new mask at training camp this weekend, and its design is one that should appeal to all types of sports fans in Arizona.
Domingue's mask, painted by Dave Gunnarsson, features artistic tributes to four of the Valley of the Sun's top athletes from years past and present.
Depictions of Larry Fitzgerald of the Arizona Cardinals and Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns appear on the right side of Domingue's mask, and depictions of Randy Johnson of the Arizona Diamondbacks and former Coyotes goalie Sean Burke appear on the left side.
Domingue said he considered putting a depiction of Shane Doan on the mask instead of Burke, but chose not to at this time because he and Doan are still teammates.
"That would have been weird," Domingue said with a smile before explaining how he likely would put Doan's image on a future mask after the 39-year-old Coyotes captain retires.
Burke played for the Coyotes from 1999-2004 and more recently served as Coyotes Goaltenders Coach from 2008-15. He helped Domingue, whom the Coyotes drafted in 2010, develop into an NHL goaltender.
