Doan Serves as Sports Anchor for Valley TV Station

by Dave Vest / Arizona Coyotes

GLENDALE – Coyotes captain Shane Doan shifted into sports anchor mode on Sunday night when he co-hosted 12Sports Tonight on TV station KPNX - the Valley’s NBC affiliate.

Doan and anchor Bruce Cooper discussed the sports news of the day, including games played as part of the Stanley Cup Playoffs and NBA Playoffs, as well as the Arizona Diamondbacks game against the San Diego Padres.

They also had some fun. At one point, Doan was the contestant for a game in which he had to guess whether a picture of someone’s hair he was shown was the hair of an anchorman or a hockey player. Later, Doan competed in a puck-shooting contest against co-anchor Cameron Cox; the target was a Tyson Nash bobblehead doll.

Early in the show, Cooper asked Doan to discuss his future with the Coyotes, to which Doan replied:

"I, obviously, want to be in the Valley," Doan said. "That’s always been my goal, to play my whole career here. And at the same time, you recognize as your career is winding down that everybody wants to win. But I have faith in our team. I have faith in Mike Smith and Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Dave Tippett, and hopefully we can take a step forward this summer and do some things that make us better."
