--- The National Hockey League announced today that Phoenix Coyotes forward Shane Doan
has been named the NHL’s Third Star for the week ending March 22. Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Cam Ward was named the first star while Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin was named the second star.
Doan recorded seven points on three goals and four assists last week as the Coyotes earned five of a possible eight points, posting a 2-1-1 record in four games. He notched the game-winning goal and three assists in a 4-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks on March 17 for a season-high four points, then tallied the game-winning goal in a 5-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on March 21. On March 22, Doan recorded one goal and one assist in a 6-2 loss to the Anaheim Ducks. The Coyotes captain is on pace to lead the club in scoring for a fifth consecutive season with 28-36-64 in 73 games.
Earlier this season, Doan became the Coyotes/Jets franchise’s all-time leader in game-winning goals (44) and moved into second place on the club’s all-time games played list (956). He also ranks fourth in franchise history in goals (255), assists (359) and points (614) and has joined Dale Hawerchuk and Keith Tkachuk as the only players in club history to record nine consecutive 20-goal campaigns. In January, Doan played in his second career NHL All-Star Game in Montreal, where he recorded a goal and an assist.
