GLENDALE --Coyotes defenseman Jason Demers will be sidelined indefinitely after suffering a lower-body injury in Tuesday's game vs. Nashville at Gila River Arena.

Demers, who scored his first goal of the season in the second period of Tuesday's game, fell awkwardly into Arizona's net with just 37 seconds left in the game. Teammates helped him skate off the ice and he did not return.
Demers, 30, ranks third on the team in ice time at 19:50. He is just nine games short of 600 for his NHL career, which began in 2009-10 with San Jose. The Coyotes acquired Demers just before the start of last season in a trade with the Florida Panthers. He's been paired primarily with captain Oliver Ekman-Larsson the past two seasons and they've developed solid chemistry.
The Coyotes on Friday recalled defenseman Robbie Russo from the American Hockey League. He and Dakota Mermis, whom the team recalled from the AHL on Thursday, will provide depth on defense.
Demers is active on social media. Fans can wish him a speedy recovery on Twitter at
