The Phoenix Coyotes won the Pacific Division title Saturday night with their 4-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild. This is the first division title that the Coyotes have won in the franchise’s 33 year history. The Coyotes will face-off against the Chicago Blackhawks in the first round of the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The National Hockey League will announce the first round schedule on Sunday, April 8 at 10 a.m. P.D.T.
The Coyotes have qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs in three or more consecutive seasons for the first time since the team clinched a playoff berth in its first four seasons in the Valley (1996-1997 to 1999-2000). Phoenix (42-27-13, 97 points) has now won at least 40 games for the third consecutive season, marking the first time in franchise history that the team has recorded three consecutive seasons with 40-plus wins (franchise record 52 wins in 2009-10). With the victory tonight against the Wild, the Coyotes have produced the three best seasons in franchise history over the past three years (2009-10 to 2011-12).
