Coyotes to Select 7th and 23rd Overall at NHL Draft

Arizona owns seven picks in the seven-round draft this weekend in Chicago

GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- The Arizona Coyotes currently own the 7th and 23rd overall draft selections in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, which takes place on Friday, June 23 at the United Center in Chicago, IL and will be televised on NBC Sports Network beginning at 4 p.m. MT. Rounds 2-7 will take place on Saturday, June 24, starting at 7 a.m. MT, with NHL Network providing live coverage to viewers throughout North America.

The Coyotes own seven picks in the seven-round draft, including two selections in the first and third rounds. This marks the second time in Coyotes history and the third time in franchise history that the club has owned the seventh overall selection in the NHL Draft. The Winnipeg Jets chose Shane Doan seventh overall in the 1995 NHL Draft while Arizona selected Clayton Keller at No. 7 in 2016. It also marks the third time in franchise history that the Coyotes have owned the 23rd overall selection. The team drafted Ben Eager in 2002 and selected Moe Mantha in 1980.

Other notable No. 7 picks selected in the NHL Draft since 1999 include Ryan Suter (2003), Kyle Okposo (2006), Jakub Voracek (2007), Nazem Kadri (2009) and Jeff Skinner (2010).

*Arizona acquired Minnesota's first round choice (23rd overall), a 2018 second round draft choice, a 2019 conditional draft choice and forward Grayson Downing from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for forwards Martin Hanzal and Ryan White and a 2017 fourth round draft choice.
*Arizona acquired San Jose's 2016 fourth round draft choice and the Sharks' 2017 third round draft choice (69th overall, previously DET's pick) in exchange for forward Maxim Letunov and a 2017 sixth round draft choice.
*Arizona acquired the 78th overall draft choice along with a conditional 2018 draft choice from Calgary in exchange for defenseman Michael Stone.
The Coyotes will hold a viewing party for the 2017 NHL Entry Draft on Friday, June 23 from 4-7 p.m. at the Ice Den Scottsdale (9375 E. Bell Road). Fans will be able to watch complete coverage of the first round of the draft on screens set up on the floor of the east rink which will be covered by turf. In addition, the draft can be viewed on TV's in the 18 Degrees Neighborhood Grill. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. and fans should enter Ice Den Scottsdale from the main entrance off Bell Road. The event is free and open to the public. Parking is limited so fans are encouraged to arrive early.
Burns and Gambo from 98.7 FM Arizona's Sports Station will broadcast their show live from Ice Den Scottsdale in 18 Degrees Neighborhood Grill from 2-6 p.m. Coyotes Radio Play-by-Play Announcer Bob Heethuis and Radio Host Luke Lapinski will provide Draft updates throughout the first round.

Children 14 years of age and under are invited to play ball hockey on the turf while Howler and members of the Paw Patrol will be on hand to interact with fans. The Coyotes slap shot inflatable and draft card booth will also be available at the event. The Chilly Bean Café concessions will be open to all fans and food and beverage specials will be available at 18 Degrees Neighborhood Grill.

Immediately following the Coyotes Draft viewing party at 7:30 p.m., the Ice Den's Friday Night Open Skate will be themed "Coyotes Night" and all fans who wear a Coyotes jersey will be provided free admission and skate rental. The open ice session will run from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. Space is limited so fans will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis.
