Coyotes to Select 7th and 20th Overall in First Round of 2016 NHL Entry Draft

GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- The Arizona Coyotes currently own the 7th and 20th overall draft selections in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, which takes place on Friday, June 24 at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo, NY, and will be televised on NBC Sports Network beginning at 4 p.m. PT. Rounds 2-7 will take place on Saturday, June 25, starting at 7 a.m. PT, with NHL Network providing live coverage to viewers throughout North America.

The Coyotes own eight picks in the seven-round draft, including two selections in the first and second rounds. This marks the first time in Coyotes history and the second time in franchise history that the club has owned the seventh overall selection in the NHL Draft. The Winnipeg Jets drafted Shane Doan seventh overall in the 1995 NHL Draft. It also marks the second time in franchise history that the Coyotes have owned the 20th overall selection. The team drafted Connor Murphy 20th overall in 2011.

Other notable No. 7 picks selected in the NHL Draft since 1999 include Ryan Suter (2003), Kyle Okposo (2006), Jakub Voracek (2007), Nazem Kadri (2009) and Jeff Skinner (2010).

COYOTES SELECTIONS IN THE 2016 NHL ENTRY DRAFT

*Arizona acquired the Tampa Bay Lightning’s second-round pick (60th overall), Anthony Duclair, John Moore and a first round draft choice in the 2016 Entry Draft from the New York Rangers in exchange for Keith Yandle, Chris Summers and a fourth round choice in the 2016 Entry Draft on March 1, 2015.

*Arizona acquired the 53rd overall pick when it chose not to sign Conner Bleakley to an entry-level contract. The Coyotes acquired Bleakley along with Kyle Wood and Alex Tanguay from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for Mikkel Boedker on Feb. 29, 2016.

*Arizona acquired San Jose’s 2016 fourth round draft choice (120th overall) and the Sharks’ 2017 third round draft choice (previously DET’s pick) in exchange for forward Maxim Letunov and a 2017 sixth round draft choice on June 20, 2016.

2016 DRAFT VIEWING PARTY AT GILA RIVER ARENA

The Coyotes will hold a viewing party for the 2016 NHL Entry Draft on Friday, June 24 from 3-7 p.m. at Gila River Arena. Fans will be able to watch complete coverage of the first round of the draft on the arena video board. Doors open at 3:00 p.m. and fans should enter Gila River Arena at the main entrance (Gate 4). The event is free and open to the public.

The Coyotes will unveil their 20th anniversary logo and jersey patch, which celebrates 20 seasons in the Valley, prior to the start of the draft. Fans will be able to preorder Coyotes jerseys with the new patch at the Coyotes Den team store.

Burns and Gambo from Arizona Sports 98.7 FM will broadcast their show live from the arena in the BMW Lounge from 2-6 p.m. Coyotes Radio Play-by-Play Announcer Bob Heethuis and Radio Host Luke Lapinski will provide Draft updates throughout the first round.

Carnival rides including a zip line and rock wall will be available for kids attending the Coyotes Draft party. Fans will also have an opportunity to visit the Pawtograph Station and participate in tours of the Coyotes dressing room. In addition, Howler and members of the Paw Patrol will be on hand to interact with fans. Concessions will be open to all fans on the east side of Gila River Arena. Food and beverage items will be available for purchase. In addition, Levy Restaurants will offer $3 Coors beer specials (12 ounce beer) and $3 nachos at concessions stands.

Team representatives will be in attendance to share information about 2016-17 season ticket packages. Seats will be tagged for Full Season Tickets as well as newly released Half Season Tickets.
