COYOTES TO SELECT 6th OVERALL IN TOMORROW'S NHL ENTRY DRAFT

GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- The Phoenix Coyotes will have the sixth overall draft selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, which begins this Friday (June 26) at Bell Centre in Montreal and will be televised on VERSUS at 4 p.m. Arizona time.

The Coyotes currently hold six picks in the seven-round draft. Last year, the team selected forwards Mikkel Boedker (8th overall) and Viktor Tikhonov (28th overall) in the first round.

PHOENIX COYOTES SELECTIONS IN THE 2009 NHL ENTRY DRAFT

Round 1 (6th overall)

Round 2 (36th overall)

Round 3 – No picks (Traded to CGY)*

Round 4 (97th overall & 105th overall – from FLA)**

Round 5 – No picks (Traded to NYR)***

Round 6 (157th overall)

Round 7 (187th overall)

*Phoenix’s 3rd round pick was traded to Calgary along with Olli Jokinen in exchange for Matthew Lombardi, Brandon Prust and Calgary’s 1st round choice in the 2010 Entry Draft (March 4, 2009).

**Phoenix acquired the 105th overall pick from Florida along with a 2nd round pick in the 2008 Entry Draft, which was used to select Jared Staal, in exchange for Nashville’s 2nd round pick (previously acquired, 46th overall) on June 21, 2008.

***Phoenix’s 5th round pick was traded to the New York Rangers along with Josh Gratton, David LeNeveu and Fredrik Sjostrom in exchange for Al Montoya and Marcel Hossa (Feb. 26, 2008).
