GLENDALE -- The Phoenix Coyotes selected six players in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft at the Prudential Center from Newark, N.J. on Sunday.
The Coyotes drafted center Max Domi, London (OHL) with the 12th selection in the first round. The 5-foot-10, 194-pound Domi recorded a team-leading 39-48-87 with a plus-33 rating in 64 games with the Knights this season. In two seasons in London, Domi has produced 60-76-136 in 126 games. The Toronto, Ontario native was a member of Canada’s gold medal team at the 2012 U18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament.
In the second round, the Coyotes selected center Laurent Dauphin, Chicoutimi (QMJHL) after acquiring the 39th selection from the N.J. Devils in exchange for the 42nd and 73rd picks. The 6-foot, 165-pound native of Repentigny, Quebec posted 25-32-57 and 50 penalty minutes (PIM) in 62 games with the Sagueneens in 2012-13. He also recorded 2-2-4 with eight PIM in six postseason games. Dauphin registered 4-2-6 in seven games and won a gold medal with Canada’s U18 team at the 2013 U18 World Junior Championship.
With the 62nd overall pick (third round), Phoenix selected center Yan-Pavel Laplante, Prince Edward Island (QMJHL). The 6-foot, 176-pound native of Chateauguay, Quebec registered 5-8-13 in 18 games this season. He led the Rocket with three goals in six postseason games. In 2011-12, Laplante recorded 6-15-21 and 33 PIM in 57 games with Prince Edward Island. Laplante was also ranked No. 50 among North American Skaters in Central Scouting’s final draft rankings.
In the fifth round, the Coyotes selected defenseman Connor Clifton, U.S. National U18, (USDP). The 5-foot-11, 176-pound native of Matawan, N.J. recorded 3-6-9 and 90 PIM with the U.S. National Development Juniors Team this season. He also registered 8-15-23 and 114 PIM in 66 games with the U.S. National U18 team in 2012-13.
With the 163rd overall pick (sixth round), Phoenix selected goaltender Brendan Burke, Portland (WHL). The 6-foot-2, 175-pound native of Scottsdale, A.Z. posted a 24-5-1 record with a .908 save percentage and 2.65 goals against average this season with the Winterhawks. His father, Sean, is the Coyotes Asst. to the General Manager and Goaltending Coach.
The Coyotes’ final selection in the 2013 Entry Draft was forward Jedd Soleway, Penticton (BCHL) with the 193rd pick. The 6-foot-2, 207-pound native of Vernon, B.C. recorded 14-15-29 and 33 PIM with the Vees this season. He registered 5-6-11 in 15 postseason games. Soleway also totaled 5-12-17 and 29 PIM in 26 games with Vernon (BCHL) in 2012-13.
The Coyotes will hold their prospect development camp from July 9-11 at the Ice Den (9375 East Bell Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85260). All on-ice sessions will be from 2:15 to 3:45 p.m. daily and are free and open to the public.
