Coyotes Select Alexander Ruuttu and Lucas Lessio in Second Round of 2011 NHL Draft

 Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the team has selected center Alexander Ruuttu with the 51st overall pick and left wing Lucas Lessio with the 56th overall pick in the second round of the 2011 National Hockey League Entry Draft at XCEL Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota.

The 6-foot-1, 185 pound Ruuttu recorded 18-13-31 and 14 penalty minutes in 41 games with Jokerit Jr. of the Finnish Junior League.

His father, Christian, was drafted 134th overall by the Buffalo Sabres in 1983 and played nine seasons in the NHL with the Sabres, Chicago Blackhawks and Vancouver Canucks. He is now the head european scout with the Phoenix Coyotes.

The 6-foot-1, 201 pound Lessio recorded 27-27-54 and 66 PIM in 66 games with the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League. In 2010-11, Lessio finished second on Oshawa in rookie scoring with 27 goals and 54 points in 66 games.

The Maple, Ont. native represented Canada at the 2010 Under-18 Ivan Hlinka tournament and won silver with Team Ontario at the 2010 Under-17 World Challenge.
