Coyotes Rooting for Manning, Expecting Carolina to Win Super Bowl

GLENDALE – The Coyotes will practice on Sunday morning and then many of them will gather later in the day to watch Super Bowl 50 together as a group.
The overwhelming consensus among Coyotes players polled this week is two-fold: 1. Most want Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning to play well and win, but 2. Carolina will beat Denver in the NFL’s title game.
“I think Manning will be ready to play because he knows it might be his last game, and I think he’ll do his best to win it, but I don’t think it’s going to be enough,” center Martin Hanzal said. “The Panthers have such a good chemistry, and they’re a younger and faster team. I’ll be cheering for Manning but I don’t think they’ll win. I think Carolina will win, by at least 10 points.”
Center Brad Richardson is predicting Carolina to win, too, but he’s hoping for a competitive game.
“I think I’m like most of the guys in here,” Richardson said. “We’d like to see Peyton win, but I’m not expecting that to happen. Hopefully it’s a good game. That’s what I’ll be cheering for.”
Shane Doan, who like Manning is 39 years old, turned some heads by predicting the Broncos will win.
“Us old guys have to stick together,” Doan said with a smile. “I’ll be rooting hard for the Broncos and for Peyton Manning. His career has been incredible, and for him to get a second Super Bowl title would be special.”
Doan, who is expecting a low-scoring game, said the key to Denver winning is getting a lead.
“I think the Broncos have a really good chance,” Doan said. “They have Peyton and an unbelievable defense. I know they’re the underdog, but it’s one game and hopefully they can do it. If they can get off to a quick start and put Carolina behind they’ll be OK. Look at what Atlanta did to the Panthers at the end of the regular season. It’s doable.”
