On Tuesday morning, the Phoenix Coyotes 2007 rookie camp resumed at Desert Schools Coyotes Center in Peoria.

Having been off the ice over 48 hours, the Coyotes prospects returned with their longest, most intense practice yet.  In addition to the drills, every player also took part in a series of power skating drills, designed to teach the players, how to make the most of their footwork on the ice.

While Coyotes prospects Martin Hanzal and Blake Wheeler continue to grab headlines (deservedly so), the third member of that line, Kevin Porter, is quietly putting together an equally impressive performance this week.

Coming off a stellar junior season at the University of Michigan where he recorded career highs in goals (24), assists (34) and points (58); Porter was given an All-U.S. College Hockey Online honorable mention as well as being named to the All-CCHA second team and All-Tournament team.

Porter is expected to return to Ann Arbor this fall where he will serve as the Wolverines team captain and try to help capture the school’s first NCAA Championship since 1997-98.

“I want to finish up my fourth year at Michigan, finish up school, get my degree and then hopefully after that sign with the Coyotes,” said Porter.

Originally selected by the Coyotes in the fourth round (119th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Porter is determined to make the most out of his final season of college hockey and could possibly be playing in Phoenix by the end of the 2007-08 season.

Since the second day of camp, the Coyotes coaching staff have limited the number of goalies on the ice to four, keeping one netminder off in order to maximize participation for the group.

After sitting out Sunday’s session, Josh Tordjman, who compiled a 15-18-2 record with a 2.58 goals-against average last season with the San Antonio Rampage, returned to the ice in favor of Boston University sophomore, Brett Bennett.

The Coyotes prospects will hold their final on-ice workout of this summer’s rookie camp on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at DSCC in Peoria.  All on-ice workouts are open to the public and admission is free.
