GLENDALE, ARIZONA –
Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have recalled goaltender Curtis McElhinney from the Portland Pirates, the Coyotes American Hockey League affiliate (AHL). The Coyotes have also recalled forward Patrick O’Sullivan from Portland on an emergency basis.
The 6-foot-2, 197-pound McElhinney has appeared in 21 games with the Pirates this season, posting a record of 9-11-0-0 with a 2.95 goals against average and a .910 save percentage.
Last season the 28-year-old native of London, Ont., posted a record of 9-13-1 with a 3.18 goals against average and a .897 save percentage in 28 NHL games with the Anaheim Ducks and Ottawa Senators. In 67 career NHL games with Anaheim, Ottawa and the Calgary Flames, McElhinney is 18-26-4 with a 3.13 goals against average and a .898 save percentage.
McElhinney was originally drafted by Calgary in the sixth round (176th overall) of the 2002 Entry Draft.
The 5-foot-11, 189-pound O’Sullivan has appeared in 17 games with the Coyotes this season, registering 2-1-3. In six games with Portland this year he has recorded 2-5-7.
Last season the 26-year-old native of Toronto, Ont., appeared in 31 NHL games with the Carolina Hurricanes and Minnesota Wild, recording 2-6-8. In 328 career NHL games with Carolina, Minnesota, the Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings, O’Sullivan has posted 58-102-160.
O’Sullivan was originally drafted by Minnesota in the second round (56th overall) in the 2003 Entry Draft.
The Coyotes have also announced that goaltender Justin Pogge has been assigned to Portland.
The 6-foot-3, 197-pound Pogge has appeared in seven games with the Pirates this season, posting a record of 3-2-2-0 with a 3.22 goals against average and a .891 save percentage.
In 2010-11, Pogge appeared in 48 games with the Charlotte Checkers (AHL), recording a 22-18-1-4 record with a 3.12 goals against average and a .907 save percentage.
Pogge was originally drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the third round (90th overall) in the 2004 Entry Draft.
The Coyotes also placed goaltender Mike Smith
on Injured Reserve with a lower-body injury, retroactive to Tuesday, December 20.
