COYOTES RECALL SPILLER FROM SAN ANTONIO
GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Michael Barnett announced today that the Coyotes have recalled defenseman Matthew Spiller from the San Antonio Rampage, the Coyotes' top minor league affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Spiller, 22, has registered 2-5-7 and a team-high 94 penalty minutes (PIM) in 36 games with San Antonio this season. Last season, the Daysland, Alberta native recorded 4-7-11 and 160 PIM in 79 games with the AHL's Utah Grizzlies to rank 2nd on the club in PIM and share the team lead among defensemen in goals.
Today's call-up is the first of the season for the 6-foot-5, 233-pound Spiller. Spiller played 51 games with the Coyotes during his first professional season of 2003-04. He did not figure in scoring and collected 54 PIM.
The Coyotes selected Spiller with their 2nd choice (2nd round, 31st overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
Spiller will be available to play in tomorrow's Coyotes game at Buffalo. The Coyotes and Sabres will face off Thursday at 5:00 p.m. Arizona time. The game will be broadcast on KDUS (1060 AM).
