GLENDALE, ARIZONA -- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Michael Barnett announced today that the Coyotes have reassigned defenseman Matt Jones to the San Antonio Rampage - the Coyotes' top minor league affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Jones, 22, has registered two assists and 14 penalty minutes (PIM) in 15 games over four stints with the Coyotes this season. The 6-foot, 215-pound blueliner recorded his first NHL point on Jan. 14 with an assist in the Coyotes' 4-3 win at Toronto.
In 47 games with San Antonio this season, Jones has collected 1-9-10 and 44 PIM. Earlier this season, the native of Downers Grove, Illinois was named to the PlanetUSA AHL All-Star Team for the 2006 AHL All-Star Classic. Jones was originally drafted by the Coyotes (3rd round, 80th overall) in the 2002 Entry Draft.
The Coyotes return to the ice tonight when they face the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena at 5:00 p.m. (Arizona time). The game will be broadcast on FSN Arizona and KDUS (1060-AM).
