Doan retired following 21 seasons and 1,540 regular season NHL games with the Coyotes franchise. He finished his career with 402-570-972 and 128 power-play goals while his 1,540 regular season games played are tied with John Bucyk for 17th place on the NHL's all-time list.
The Coyotes retired Doan's number 19 jersey on Sunday, February 24, 2019 when the Coyotes hosted the Winnipeg Jets. Doan became the first Coyotes player to have his jersey retired at Gila River Arena.
The 44-year-old Doan, who was drafted seventh overall by the Jets in the 1995 NHL Draft, served as Arizona's captain for his final 13 seasons and retired as the NHL's longest-tenured captain. Doan is the team's all-time leader in games played (1,540), goals (402), assists (570), points (972), power-play goals (128) and game-winning goals (69).
Doan represented the Coyotes at the 2004 and 2009 NHL All-Star Games and was awarded the King Clancy Memorial Trophy for community service in 2010 and captured the Mark Messier NHL Leadership Award in 2012. The Halkirk, AB native represented Canada at the 2004 World Cup of Hockey, the 2006 Olympic Winter Games and six IIHF World Championships.
